Basic fibroblast growth factor is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family. FGF family members possess broad mitogenic and cell survival activities, and are involved in a variety of biological processes, including embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth and invasion.
Human Recombinant Fibroblast Growth Factor-2 (FGF-2) is produced in E.coli. It is a single, non-glycosylated, polypeptide chain containing 155 amino acids and having a molecular mass of 17,353 Daltons. FGF-2 is purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.
Applications:
Pluripotent human stem cell (iPSC & ESC) culturing: Human FGF-2 also promotes long-term maintenance and propagation of undifferentiated human embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells.
Culturing of neural stem cells-human, rat & mouse: FGF-2 is a necessary mitogen for the proliferation of neural stem cells and their maintenance of multipotency.
Activity:
Activity is measured using two cell proliferation assays, NIH-3T3 and BAF3 cells expressing FGF receptors, and the activity is >2 x 106 Units/mg.
Purity:
> 96%, by SDS-PAGE and RP-HPLC
